A power failure or computer malfunction can result in inaccessible or protected Charts files. It's well to be aware that you can double click the Charts Clear Protections utility in your desktop's Charts Live folder, which quickly provides access.

If Charts has closed unexpectedly due to a power failure, computer malfunction or the like, there may be files which are inaccessible as a result.
This problem is particularly relevant when the power fails while doing a guest check-in. The guest won't be checked into the system, but the room which was allocated for that arrival now has a 'p' beside it, indicating that the room is protected. The protected status usually signifies the room is being checked in by another terminal; however, in this case we know it isn't in use by another terminal, but is locked due to your terminal 'crashing' during check-in.
In older versions of Charts this caused quite a hassle as all terminals had to log out of Charts, but now there is a utility which is included in the Charts Live Folder which should already be on the desktops of all computers using Charts.
By double clicking on the Clears Protections icon, Charts will clear all protections on rooms which are not actually in use by other terminals. It is very fast, and can be done from any terminal. This is a very useful utility, well worth knowing.
If your Charts setup is not typical, and you are unable to find this utility on your desktop, then you may like to contact us for further instructions.
